Pete Clifton has been a journalist for more than 40 years, including senior leadership roles at the BBC, Microsoft and PA Media (formerly the Press Association).
He decided to step down from PA at the end of 2024 after 10 years as Editor-in-Chief at the UK and Ireland’s national news agency. He was responsible for all editorial content produced by 300+ staff across the five nations, and he transformed newsroom operations to be genuinely digital first.
This included a video service that blossomed to become a central part of the agency’s output, new production systems, a reimagined platform to showcase the multi-media content, and a laser focus on understanding how PA’s content was being used across broadcasters, national and regional newspapers and websites.
Prior to his time at PA, Pete was the Executive Producer of the MSN website in the UK, and also spent 11 years at the BBC where he was the Editor of Ceefax, Editor of the BBC News website and founding Editor of the BBC Sport website. He began his career as a news and sports reporter at the Chronicle and Echo evening newspaper in Northampton, his home town.
Pete is now concentrating on consultancy and public speaking.
