We’re thrilled to announce the appointment of two titans of British journalism – Gary Jones, former Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Express, and Pete Clifton, former Editor-in-Chief of PA Media – as Senior Advisors to the Pagefield team.
With over 80 years of combined experience at the helm of some of the UK’s most respected newsrooms, Gary and Pete bring an unmatched depth of editorial insight, strategic nous and sharp judgment to our already formidable advisory bench.
Insight and influence where it matters most
Gary Jones has spent more than four decades in senior editorial roles, with a career spanning the Sunday Mirror, Sunday People and Daily Express. He is known for championing impactful investigations and campaigning journalism – from advocating for rail safety systems and miners’ compensation to securing access to life-saving cystic fibrosis drugs.
Pete Clifton, meanwhile, has led the transformation of some of Britain’s biggest news platforms into digital-first powerhouses. At PA Media, he oversaw a team of 300+ journalists across the UK and Ireland. Prior to that, he held senior roles at the BBC, including Editor of the BBC News website and founding Editor of BBC Sport online, before joining MSN UK as Executive Producer.
Our Chief Executive, Oliver Foster, summed it up perfectly:
“Gary and Pete are not only hugely liked and respected doyens of the industry, but they also bring such a wealth of insight, judgment and credibility to our world-class bench of senior advisors. They’ve been living and breathing newsrooms all their adult lives, and those deep connections across both the media landscape and the full range of British political parties will be a tremendous asset to our clients in the coming years.”
Their arrival further strengthens our offer of real-world strategic counsel to clients navigating an increasingly complex political and media landscape.
These appointments follow a landmark moment for Pagefield – our acquisition by PPHC, a growing international group of public policy and communications specialists. Gary and Pete join a stellar cast of Senior Advisors that includes John Alty, former Permanent Secretary at the Department for International Trade, and Professor Patrick Diamond, a former No.10 policy advisor under both Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.
