Challenge
We currently advise BRE on its media and political engagement strategies, helping the organisation strengthen its relationships with influential stakeholders and cement its reputation as a world-leader in science and research in the built environment.
Approach
We have worked with BRE to develop a thought leadership programme to help the organisation demonstrate its expertise – particularly in areas of housing and building efficiency – to a broader audience. Most recently this has involved launching BRE’s latest reports: Decarbonising heat in Britain’s buildings which outlines strategies for policymakers to better decarbonise Britain’s buildings; and The Cost of Poor Housing in England by tenure which quantifies the impact of substandard housing on the NHS. For both reports we developed a targeted engagement programme with national and trade media, Westminster, influential think tanks, and industry experts.
Results
Following our thought leadership work, BRE secured a meeting with the No. 10 policy unit to discuss its recommendations to government, as well as opportunities with the Institute for Public Policy Research, Bright Blue and the Sustainable Energy Association to further promote the organisation’s research.
We generated media coverage for BRE in The Times’ Health Commission, The Express, City AM and a number of respected trade titles including Inside Housing and edie.net. We have also seen an uptick in inbound enquiries to the BRE press office, including requests from The Guardian and The Economist, for the organisation’s experts to contribute to stories on developments in the energy efficiency and built environment sector.
