Supporting a company on its mission to close the gender gap in tech

Code First Girls

Challenge

Pagefield was hired by Code First Girls to promote its Series A fundraise as well as its transition from a social enterprise to a rapidly accelerating profit-making business. We were also asked to help develop the company’s strategic messaging, raise its profile, and communicate its mission of eliminating the gender gap in the tech industry by providing free education and employment to women.

Approach

We created a narrative clearly setting out the company’s aim of creating one million opportunities for women to learn to code and participate in the tech industry in the next five years – providing women with £1bn worth of economic opportunities.

We then introduced Code First Girls’ CEO, Anna Brailsford, to key journalists in the tech, education and social affairs space, as part of an intensive briefing programme so the media could get to know her and Code First Girls’ mission better. In addition, we looked to Code First Girls’ existing partnerships, case studies, and data, for opportunities to create proactive stories around Code First Girls and their impact.

Results

Our efforts have significantly boosted the media profile of Code First Girls, with coverage appearing in outlets such as The Times, The Guardian, The Telegraph, BBC, Sifted and City AM.

Anna Brailsford has appeared on Sky News and Times Radio to discuss Code First Girls partnerships, and was profiled by the Evening Standard. The company’s work has also been featured on LBC and the Today Programme. During our work with them, Code First Girls also recently won the EdTech Company of the Year at the UK Business Tech Awards.
