Pagefield Academy | Pagefield

What?

What?

The Pagefield Academy offers completely bespoke training delivered by some of the most experienced practitioners in the business.

Our starting point is to develop a deep understanding of your needs, your business and your environment. We then devise a tailored course to equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to achieve your objectives.

Our courses are usually delivered in small workshops for you and your colleagues (usually a maximum of 4 attendees) for either a half day or full day. We also arrange ad hoc open workshops for groups of up to 15 people from across a range of sectors. It’s important for participants to get away from the office and so all workshops are held in our offices.

Some of our most popular training modules are outlined below, but if you have a specific need that is not covered here – please contact us and we’ll see whether we can develop a course just for you.

Media Training

The most common feedback we hear from journalists is that CEOs and company spokespeople have become ‘boring’, ‘over-trained’ and only interested in ‘sound-bites’. Whether you’re about to embark on a period of profile raising, preparing for a tough interview or want to be ready to defend your reputation in the wake of a crisis, we can develop a training course that will ensure you deliver your message without losing your personality.

Risk Management and Crisis Handling

The best time to prepare for a crisis is before it arises so that you’re not scrabbling around in the full glare of the country’s media, trying to work out who to speak to and what to say. However, in some circumstances this isn’t possible and knowing how to handle a crisis as it unfolds, is also key. This course walks you through the key steps in issues management and crisis handling from a communications perspective including: risk audits and investigations and how to put together a crisis manual.

Presentation Skills and Public Speaking

If you have a specific presentation to give, we can work with you to develop the right content and train you to deliver it with maximum impact. Our objective: to ensure that your time at the podium enhances your reputation and that of your company.

Negotiation Skills

Getting the right result in any negotiation is a delicate balancing act of diplomatic give and take. Learn how to handle tricky negotiations from a seasoned diplomat trained to negotiate on behalf of the UK.

Select Committee training

Appearing before a Parliamentary Select Committee can be a truly daunting experience particularly when the atmosphere is adversarial and the political scrutiny is compounded by intense media interest. Our Select Committee training is tough – but if you can get past our team of crack interrogators, then the real thing will be a walk in the park!

Public Affairs 101

The political landscape can be a minefield to the uninitiated but if you do business with Government (or would like to) or need to influence Government policy, we can develop a course that will cover all the essentials.

Corporate PR 101

PR is an essential element of the wider marketing and communications mix. Our introductory course will equip you with a sound, basic understanding of the core principle of public relations so that you can best utilise this important discipline to enhance your reputation and / or to grow your business.

Social Media Strategy 101

A Facebook page, a Twitter account, an Instagram profile…it seems that you’re nobody these days unless you’re online. But what does this mean for corporates and organisations? This course aims to answer this question and help you to decide which channels work for you and which don’t and how to stay on top of and respond to the never-ending social ‘noise’?

Pitching & Lead Conversion

For many businesses, pitching of one sort or another is a key route to growth. At Pagefield, we enjoy a lead conversion rate of over 70% – and we’re happy to share our methodology and top tips with you to improve your ability to covert warm leads into paying clients.

Narrative & Stories

‘Brand storytelling’ has become an industry buzzword, yet few companies are truly using stories to power their communications. This course looks at what makes a great story, why stories are so effective and how businesses – and individuals – can use story structure (and great writing) to make their communications more distinctive, relevant and memorable.

The Corporate Voice – writing for business

Voice, tone, style and substance -in this course we teach you the basics of writing for business (or charity). We can cover everything from the do’s and don’ts of grammar to sophisticated ways to persuade and engage your readers.

Networking

Walking into a room full of strangers with the instruction to ‘network’ can strike fear into even the most seasoned professional’s heart. There is an art to networking: knowing how to enter a conversation and how (gracefully) to leave it; how to introduce people and how to garner useful information from your conversation. Networking is only as useful as the follow up so we also cover how to ensure that your initial connection isn’t lost.

Stakeholder engagement

What, who, when, how, why? What are stakeholders? How do we define them? Who should you be engaging with – who should your priorities be and what are their motivations and agendas? When should you engage with stakeholders; when is it a nice-to-have and when is it essential? How do you engage in a way that is beneficial for both parties? We cover this and more in this course.

Choosing & Managing your Agency

Working with an agency is the perfect illustration of the rule that you get out, what you put in. To get the best from an agency you need to write an insightful and informative brief; draw up a balanced shortlist, run a pitch process that challenges your agencies and allows them to shine and then manage your chosen agency with clarity and equity. On this course we draw from experience on both sides of the client / agency relationship to help you to get the best out of your agency – even if it isn’t us!

Presentation and Speech Writing Master Class

A great presentation or speech can move people to action and provide an opportunity to engage audiences beyond your usual scope. However for some, there are few things more daunting than public speaking and whilst most people dread it, they rarely take any meaningful steps to get better at it. Our presentation and speech writing master class will provide you with a few tricks of the trade and a guide for developing and delivering a powerful speech and presentation and conveying it with maximum impact.
